Fire Raged At Dallas Apartment Near White Rock Lake

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Dallas Fire-Rescue crews battled a fire at the Bluffs of Lakewood apartments.

Several units arrived to work the fire, which engulfed two buildings and quickly spread to the roof. Nearly 90 firefighters attacked the fire, which started out as a 2-alarm blaze but quickly changed to 3, then 4-alarms.

Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesman Jason Evans said there are no reports of injured people or pets.

Clouds of smoke covered the roof as firefighters hosed it down. They moved swiftly through the thick, black smoke from apartment to apartment.

Residents had self-evacuated the building mostly by the time units arrived. Firefighters initially moved in for an offensive attack, but later pulled out and assumed a defensive posture.

Approximately 33 units were rendered uninhabitable as a result of varying degrees of fire, smoke and/or water damage. The damage displaced an unspecified number of residents, but the American Red Cross responded to assist with their needs.

Apartment management reported they could accommodate displaced tenants both on-site and at sister properties.
