DETROIT (WWJ) - A deadly Labor Day hit-and-run accident has a Detroit family pleading for help. Shontell Franklin, 26, was riding in a car with two men when their vehicle was hit by a speeding car. She was left to die of her injuries while the two men with her-- and the driver of the other car ran off.

Detroit police are looking for three people believed to have been involved in the fatal hit-and-run on Monday and Crime Stoppers of Michigan is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to an arrest in the case.

Franklin, a single mother who had just completed school to become a nursing assistant, was on her way to a family barbecue when the accident happened.

"We need help. Towanna needs closure - my family needs closure in this we need someone to support and say exactly what happened to her in this. She did not deserve this," said Shontell's aunt Lekisha Franklin-Shorter.

"I just wanted to say that this hurts so much," said Shontell's mother. "Shontell was a sweet person -- she would not have left her friends."

Authorities say two cars collided Monday afternoon at Linsvale and Northfield, south of I-96.  — and Franklin was killed in the accident.
