Who Is This Guy???

Rob Sanford

Luke Hughes. Sound familiar?? Not to me either, he came out of the foggy mist and manhandled Tiger pitching over the week end to the tune of 3 home runs and 8 RBI's. The Twins second baseman is actually a stand in because of all the injuries suffered by the club. Coming into the series he was hitting in the high .230's and low .240's....but he looked like Rod Carew instead. Of those 8 ribbies....5 were in Sunday's game alone. I say go back to the swamp where you came from.

Now is the time to pour on the coal. The Tigers are 32-19 against the Central Division this season, and most of the rest of the season are divisional foes. If the Bengals don't win it, they will really only have themselves to blame because the new few weeks is the time to shut the door.

I haven't said much about Delmon Young, but I'm as excited about his acquisition as I've been for any in for a long time. We give up two pitchers that didn't fit into the Tiger plans anyway, and get in return a 25 year old outfielder who's best years are still ahead. Plus he has another year left in his contract. The only dark cloud in this scenerio is this....if he is as good as he appears...why did two clubs give up on him? I want to believe it's both Tampa Bay and Minnesota couldn't afford him and not because of any attitude problems. As TV reporters always say in their stand-ups..."only time will tell."

This is the second time this season I have to say I agree with Jim Leyland on something. I really don't like pitchers getting MVP awards. The reasons are obvious, they pitch...and then need several days to recover, unlike a player like Alex Aliva who plays day after day and just has to suck it up. I'm NOT saying Justin Verlander shouldn't get the award because he is clearly the best player in baseball right now...but they should have two MVP's....pitching and everyday players.
