Treat Dreams Bringing Its Homemade Ice Cream To Midtown

By Edward Cardenas

FERNDALE (CBS Detroit) - Fans of the unique flavors of Treat Dreams ice cream will now have a second location to get a scoop of their favorite frozen confection in Midtown Detroit.

Owner Scott Moloney confirmed Wednesday that he will be opening a new location in the former Melt location on Cass and Willis - near Avalon Bakery.

Moloney, who left a career as a commercial banker to open the ice cream shop in 2010, said he was looking to expand in Detroit for the past two years.

"Detroit, and Midtown in particular, have been first on my list," Moloney said.

Then two weeks ago the former coffee shop and ice cream parlor became available in the midst of "all the good stuff going on downtown."

He added that Treat Dreams has strong name recognition in the area from catering jobs in the area and bringing his food truck (which looks like the Mystery Machine from Scooby Doo) to Midtown.

The new location is 820-square-feet, but does include a 1,000-square-foot patio. He plans on utilizing the patio and bring "additional vibrancy to that block."

The current Ferndale location, which will remain open, is 3,800-square-feet.

Moloney added that he will be bringing Chez Chloe French lava cakes, items from Pinwheel Bakery and Chazzano Coffee from Ferndale to the new location.

In addition to the new Detroit location, Moloney added that he is working on a second food truck which is a classic Good Humor truck.
