Taxpayer Rally At Michigan Capitol

LANSING (WWJ) - Hundreds of citizens have gather on the steps of the state capitol, Thursday. The Americans for Prosperity-Michigan, or AFP, are holding a Tea-Party taxpayer rally to send a message to politicians -- less spending and lower taxes.

WWJ Newsradio 950 spoke Thursday morning with Scott Hagerstrom, AFP-Michigan Director.

"There was a lot of rhetoric during the campaign -- and a lot of talk to get elected, but now it's time for action. It's time to follow through on those words -- so we just want the politicians to know we're still here,"  Hagerstrom said.

"We hope that they continue to do the right thing for prosperity to bring jobs -- good paying jobs back to michigan and we believe that can only happen through limited government and economic liberty policies," he said.

The AFP rally comes a day after several thousand people jammed the Capital lawn to protest the budget proposals being pushed by Governor Rick Snyder and Republican lawmakers.

The group putting on Thursday's tax rally supports many of Governor Rick Snyder's spending cuts but oppose his backing of a publicly-owned second Detroit-Windsor bridge.

Set to speak at the event were Attorney General Bill Schuette, Secretary of State Ruth Johnson, radio talk show host Herman Cain, and author and political commentator Dick Morris.
