Sara's Blog: The Inventor Of Planking Revealed!

I don't know if this is something someone would want to take credit for, but Tom Green (comedian ... sort of, actor ... sort of, and former MTV host) is convinced that he invented "planking". 

"Planking" pictures are still popping up all over Facebook and Twitter where people lay or balance on things face down.  Determined to prove that he was the first planker, Tom Green unearthed some footage from a 1994 Canadian cable show.

Green actually says that he has been planking since 1990.  He called the bit "Dead Guy" and performed it several times with his rap group Organized Rhyme. 

I don't think anyone is going to fight Tom for the credit, especially since Richard Simmons just shimmied up on the craze and took a picture of himself laying face down on top of another guy.  Consider that shark jumped.
