Pat Caputo: Fast Start Pushing Memories Of Past Lions Failures Out The Window
There are victories, and then there are instances that change the course of professional sports franchises forever.
The Lions' 34-30 victory over the Dallas Cowboys Sunday is likely one of those triumphs.
It was that compelling. That unlikely. That telling of just how far the Lions have come since 0-16.
Down 27-3. Nothing going right. Clearly being outplayed, outcoached, outeverything, the Lions rallied in the most improbable fashion possible.
Linebacker Bobby Carpenter and cornerback Chris Houston intercepted passes by Cowboys' quarterback Tony Romo and returned them for touchdowns.
Game on. Then, quarterback Matthew Stafford, who had struggled upon return to his hometown, got untracked late in the game, while the Lions put the heat on the crumbling Romo.
The Lions are 4-0. That in itself is a big deal. In fact, it happens once every five decades in this town.
It's only occurred once since the Lions last won a championship in 1957. That was 1980 when the Lions floundered home with a 9-7 record and missed the playoffs anyway.
Seems unlikely that will happen this year, doesn't it?
