MPSC Begins Investigation Into Electrocution Of 12-Year-Old Girl In Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) - The Michigan Public Service Commission has opened an investigation into the electrocution of a Detroit girl earlier this month.

K'Brianna Griffin was playing with friends at a home on St. Mary's, near Glendale, in Detroit on Sept. 7.

The kids ended up in the backyard of the house where the girl came across, what police say, was a down or low-hanging wire.

Twelve-year old Griffin died after hitting a power line behind a west side home. A joint statement from the city and DTE after the incident said Griffin hit an out-of-service Public Lighting Department wire that fell and crossed over a live DTE wire.

The Public Service Commission is giving DTE Energy until October 21 to file a report about what happened.

In addition, DTE executives will meet with the Commission to develop a plan to eliminate similar situations throughout the city.
