Mosquitoes Making An Early Appearance This Spring
DETROIT (WWJ) - You've probably noticed them out there already, maybe even had a run-in or two. We're talking about mosquitoes, making an early appearance in Michigan due to our wet spring.
WWJ Newsradio 950's Paul Snider reports that a cool, wet spring are ideal breeding conditions for the more than 60 different species of mosquitoes found in Michigan.
With the likelihood that it's going to be a long mosquito season, according to the state's Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, these tips are offered:
Avoid, if possible, mosquitoes during dusk and dawn, prime feeding hours.
Use repellents sparingly, and repellents containing the chemical 'deet' should not be used on infants younger than two months.
If at all possible, eliminate standing water near your home. Mosquitoes love it.
