Midland Firm's Bio-Friendly Fertilizer At Work At Garland
LEWISTON -- Summer test results of Gantec's new, bio-friendly fertilizers at the Garland Lodge and Resort proved so successful that the resort will expand use of these green products next golf season.
Under a partnership, Garland tested Gantec's fertilizers on limited areas of its golf courses to determine if existing turf technology using synthetic materials could be matched or improved by using "greener, natural" materials instead.
"The areas treated with Gantec's natural materials were equivalent to the traditionally treated turf areas," said Glen Brancheau, Garland's director of grounds. "We are extremely happy with the results of our golf course turf quality in those areas we tested. By expanding our partnership with Gantec next season, we're hopeful that we can achieve acceptable turf health by using more of their natural products and reducing the amount of synthetics around our 3,000-acre property."
Results of the 2011 trials at Garland Resort provide encouragement that Gantec's all-natural materials could be used to provide acceptable turf performance, reduce the environmental footprint by using less synthetic chemicals, and save money.
"This triple sweet spot holds enormous promise for a vibrant and sustainable business proposition. Garland Resort has taken a leadership position with this new technology," says Ric Olson, president of the Midland-based natural products bio-technology company.
Gantec's natural process focuses on "borrowing the essence" from plants in extreme environments, transferring their rich natural ingredients to plants cultivated professionally, like the turf and grounds at Garland Resort.
Gantec has identified "extremophilic plants" that survive and thrive in extreme environments and secured a supply of seeds from the neem tree found in Sub Saharan Africa. Seed collection and processing creates economic opportunity for villagers in Africa, part of Gantec's triple bottom line focus of economic opportunity, environmental improvement and community development.
Gantec technology allows the company to extract the rich biochemistry of these plants using gentle, all natural and low-waste processes. These extracts are then formulated for easy application.
Garland is a 3,000-acre resort, featuring the largest log building east of the Mississippi and four championship golf courses. More at www.garlandusa.com.
