Michigan Warns Of Syringes In Lake Shore Garbage

Michigan officials are warning visitors to Ludington-area Lake Michigan beaches to beware of syringes suspected of washing ashore from Wisconsin sewers.

Shoreline residents in Mason and Manistee counties have found the trash.

he Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Environment says this week's litter may have come from Milwaukee sewer overflows that happened July 25.

It says the U.S. Coast Guard is investigating.

The Michigan agency says the syringes could carry harmful bacteria and viruses capable of spreading diseases that include hepatitis or AIDS.

Garbage showed up two years ago in scattered locations along 200 miles of Michigan beaches.
