Lions' NFL Record For Road Losses Reaches 26
The Detroit Lions looked positive momentum in the face Sunday afternoon and turned it down, as they fell 35-19 on the road to the Dallas Cowboys.
The Lions' NFL record 26th consecutive road loss was basically sealed thanks to former Lions quaterback Jon Kitna, who led the Cowboys with 4 touchdowns, including a 29 yard TD run (career long) in the fourth quarter.
Kitna, who passed for only 147 yards, completing 18 of 24 attempts, is now 2-2 as the starter for the Cowboys since Tony Romo got hurt in Week 7. The Lions had momentum with a 10-7 lead at halftime thanks to a Shaun Hill nine yard touchdown pass to Nate Burleson.
Then the Lions got more momentum help by earning a safety to take a 12-7 lead mid way through the third quarter, but that's where things took a turn for the worse. Dallas Cornerback Bryan McCann returned a Nick Harris punt, 97 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter, but it looked like he stepped out of bounds at the Lions 20 yard line.
Lions head coach Jim Schwartz wanted to challenge, but then changed his mind.
After the game Schwartz said that his staff "didn't have any look at that play" and needed more evidence because, "in a close game like that, time outs are critical".
Schwartz means that if the Lions had challenged and lost that challenge, they would have lost a time out according to NFL rules. Jon Kitna took over the game at this point throwing two more touchdowns, both to Miles Austin, and then ran one in from 29 yards out.
The Lions got their second touchdown of the game, when Hill hit Calvin Johnson for a 14 yard TD late in the third quarter. The Lions now fall to 2-8 this season, and next up, they will host the first place New England Patriots, Thanksgiving Day this coming Thursday at Ford Field. 12:30pm will be the scheduled kickoff time.
