I Love You. Now change.

What's the secret to a long lasting love?
How do you cultivate a happy marriage?
A local expert says being realistic is a good place to start.
Dr. Tim Hogan, Director of Grace Counseling Center in Detroit says, "We have to give up our agenda of transforming the other person into the one we want to be married to, and learn to love them for who they are."
Hogan says marriage has never been easy in any generation. He says monogamy is challenging. Life is difficult.
And Hogan says if your marriage is going to make it, it's good to "give up the hope you're going to resolve some of your long standing conflicts." He says even the "masters of marriage" never resolve more than 69% of their disagreements.
(I would assume money-management, household chores, the thermostat, and who gets to hold the remote control might figure into this category.)
Finally, Hogan says couples really need to get serious about having fun. That they should do more to laugh, love and enjoy each other. On a regular basis.

It's almost Valentines Day. A good time to turn up the heat.
