Humane Society Seeks Whoever Put Beagle In Trash Bag, Offers Reward
DETROIT (CBS Detroit) No one knows how long she was inside the trash bag -- terrified and alone -- but the Michigan Humane Society wants to make sure whoever tossed the little Beagle inside pays for it.
The MHS Cruelty Investigation Department is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever abandoned the 2-year-old female Beagle in a trash bag on the east side of Detroit.
The dog was discovered in the 2000 block of Bellevue, an industrial area near Charlevoix and Mt. Elliott, by an employee of a nearby business.
The bag was soaked in urine, leading investigators to believe she'd been inside "for days."
"The Beagle may have suffered some form of trauma, as she was in severe pain when picked up by MHS," the Humane Society said in a press release. "The dog was treated with painkillers and is being thoroughly examined by MHS veterinarians, who are guarded about the dog's current prognosis. However, she is responding very well to initial treatment."
Anyone with information or who may have seen the animal abandoned in the Bellevue neighborhood is asked to contact the Michigan Humane Society's Cruelty Hotline at 313-872-3401. Callers can be anonymous.
