High winds lead to scattered power outages in Metro Detroit
High winds led to scattered power outages in Metro Detroit Monday, some of which are lingering into Tuesday morning.
By 2 a.m. Tuesday, there were about 3,000 DTE Energy customers in the dark, including about 1,500 in an area just west of Whitmore Lake with scattered outages elsewhere in the metro area, according to the DTE Energy outage map. Much of the outages were attributed to wind damage.
That number had dwindled somewhat by 6 a.m. Tuesday; but there were still 600 without power in Whitmore Lake by that point.
Other wind damage included a large tree that fell and blocked M-24 (Main Street) and Church Street in Lapeer.
A wind advisory was in effect for several hours Monday for the counties of Oakland, Macomb, Genesee, Livingston, Saginaw, St. Clair, Bay, Lapeer, Midland, Shiawassee, Tuscola, Sanilac and Huron. The National Weather Service reported 48 mph wind gust in Jackson about 11 a.m. Monday.
