(CBS DETROIT) — A boil water advisory has been lifted for Harsens Island, nearly a week after a construction company restored water service following a water main break in Clay Township.

The advisory was lifted Saturday afternoon, according to St. Clair County Homeland Security Emergency Management.

Residents still dealing with water quality problems can call Clay Township's water department at 810-794-3475, or the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy at 586-504-7163.

Officials believe the break in Clay Township occurred in the North Channel, servicing Harsens Island, as there are no signs of a break on land. A drop in water pressure was first observed Wednesday night.

There are roughly 600 to 900 residents living on the island this time of year and a few businesses are open during the winter.

While crews fixed the break, residents were able to pick up drinking water at the Harsens Island Fire Station. The Harsens Island St Clair Flats Association also offered portable toilets for anyone to use.

The township was urging Harsens Island residents to flush their plumbing and appliances when water pressure is restored. Air, discolored water and the smell of chlorine were expected at residents' taps until the flushing procedures are complete.
