Former Michigan Lt. Gov. James Damman Dead

DETROIT (AP) - Former Michigan Lieutenant Gov. James Damman has died. He was 78.

Cook-Walden Funeral Home in Austin, Texas, says Damman died Wednesday in Austin after battling cancer.

Damman was lieutenant governor under Republican Gov. William Milliken in 1975-79 after two terms in the Michigan House.

Damman was born in Grosse Pointe Park and worked for his father Adolph's Damman Hardware chain. He had a stint in the U.S. Army and served as a Troy city commissioner before entering state politics.

Damman later worked in real estate before founding Austin- based QuantumDigital Inc.

Survivors include wife Margaret; daughters Joan Kramer, Susan Peyton and Sandra Shaw; sons Jim, Stephen and Mark; sister Shirley; brother Bernard; 3 grandchildren and 2 great- grandchildren.

His funeral is Monday at St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Austin.
