NEW YORK (WWJ) Ford completely updating its flagship vehicle, the Taurus for the 2013 model year.

They gave a sneak preview of the vehicle at a party featuring the rock band "Train" in advance of the Taurus's debut at the New York Auto Show.

The Taurus getting a facelift after just two years.  But that's part of a new strategy.

"One of the biggest determinants of market share is freshness of your product lineup," said Ford Product Development Chief Derrick Kuzak.  "The fresher it is, the more new customers you bring to your lineup."

Kuzuk says the average age of the Ford lineup is 2.8 years, and they are planning to upgrade their vehicles—on average—every 2 to 2.5 years.

The 2013 Taurus will come with a 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine, which the company claims will put out 31 miles per gallon, with 237 horsepower.  The standard V6 will produce 90 horsepower.  No word on fuel economy numbers for that model yet.

Ford President of the Americas Mark Fields says fuel economy is very important to consumers, no matter what size vehicle they choose.

"Many consumers are looking for more efficient options that still offer the space, comfort and amenities they want, even right here in the New York region, which happens to be the largest retail market in the nation for large cars."

Ford also upgrading the high performance Taurus SHO package.

Additions to the technology on the ford include a heated steering wheel, park assist and adaptive cruise control.  The Taurus will also have "curve control" which slows your vehicle as it approaches a curve.

The 2013 Taurus also gets the updated "My Ford Touch" sync audio system.

The vehicle should be in showrooms in early 2012.
