Detroit Woman Says Family Caught In Dangerous Feud Between Arsonist, Neighbor
DETROIT (WWJ) - A Detroit family says they're caught in the middle of a dangerous feud involving an arsonist and a neighbor.
Firefighters were responded to a blaze at a home on Cheyenne Street, near Schaefer Highway and Puritan Avenue, on Wednesday and extinguished the flames. Then early Friday morning, crews were called back to the scene after what seemed like an explosion left the home ablaze.
"Within 48 hours, this house has been burned down twice," said Tiffany Richardson, who lives next door to the home."The first time, OK, if that was an accident -- it looked accidental if it wasn't. But this (second) time, this was purposely done because that fire came from the back room."
When the fire sparked up for the second time, Richardson said it was explosive -- and firefighters almost didn't believe her.
"The flame exploded on my bedroom window and I heard a big, loud noise so I called the fire department to come over here and I reported it to them and even they said, like, it was a fire already over there," Richardson told WWJ's Mike Campbell. "And I'm like well, it's another fire again and someone needs to come out here like now, because I have two sons in here."
Crews rushed back to the scene and extinguished the blaze before it caused serious damage to Richardson's home.
While the cause of both fires remains under investigation, Richardson believes the home in question is being intentionally set on fire and now, it's putting her life and the lives of her children in danger.
"It's not right," she said. "How that exploded on my window -- somebody was in there."
No injuries were reported in either incident.
An investigation is ongoing.
