Detroit Lions Hosting Toys For Tots Shopping Spree

Detroit Lions players are hosting their first annual Toys for Tots shopping spree Monday.

Players Brandon Pettigrew, Jerome Felton, Lawrence Jackson, Maurice Morris and Nathan Vasher will take a group of kids from the Boys and Girls Club of Southeast Michigan shopping at the Roseville Toys "R" Us store.

The Marines will also load a truck full of toys for kids at the Club not participating in the shopping spree.

Lions fans are encouraged to stop by the store to drop a toy in a Toys for Tots collection bin. Organizers say with Detroit's unemployment rate one of the highest in the country, they're anticipating an increase in requests for toys from struggling families. Without their help, many children risk facing Christmas morning with a toy under the tree.

In 2009, Toys for Tots delivered more than 220,000 toys to over 73,000 children.

Fans interested in helping the Lions and their Toys for Tots initiative are invited to visit the Roseville Toys "R" Us store, located at 32070 Gratiot Avenue.
