Detroit Author Heads To Hollywood With Hopes Of Turning Book 'No Medals' Into Movie

DETROIT (WWJ) - A Detroit book author is going to Hollywood for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Peter Banks is one of just a handful of authors selected from across the country to participate in a three-day pitch fest in California. It's a chance for Banks to submit his book "No Medals" for a potential movie idea to producers, directors and studio executives.

"It starts out Christmas Eve one year about the turn of the century in 2000, and it's about a son who find out many, many years after his dad had died that, in discussions with his older brothers and sisters, discovered that his dad had never received any medals in WWII. So, he embarks, trying to see if he can get a medal for his dad from WWII," Banks told WWJ's Terri Lee. "He finds out that this soldier was college-educated. He finds that this soldier was very, very different. He was an interpreter, which is like the wind talkers were, the Navajo Indians did it."

Banks says writing the book was an eye-opening experience that took a year to complete. He'll be in Hollywood on Thursday and promises to let us know how it all works out.
