DDOT Looking To Hire 100 Bus Drivers

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - If you need a job and have a good driving record, this could be the opportunity you've been waiting for.

The Detroit Department of Transportation (DDOT) says it's in the middle of a major service expansion with the second phase coming in January. With that in mind, DDOT is seeking to hire 100 bus drivers — or, what they call "Transportation Equipment Operators" — to handle the new routes.

DDOT has partnered with Wayne County Community College District - Eastern Campus to hold a recruiting event Thursday, Nov. 10 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for those "interested in starting a new and exciting career" as a DDOT bus driver.

People who want to apply are encouraged to attend the event, but first VISIT THIS LINK to start the online application process. (Just search "bus" on that page to get started).

Both full and part-time positions are available.

The event, hosted by the Detroit Riverfront Conservatory, will take place at WCCD's Eastern Campus, 5901 Conner in Detroit.

The city is adding buses and roughly 1,500 trips per week to bus schedules by January. Officials have said that 80 buses were bought last year, and 20 more are expected by spring.

The Transportation Department's second phase of expansion is scheduled to start in January. Last month, the department announced apprenticeship training for diesel mechanics.

Money to improve transportation was included in the city's plan to emerge from bankruptcy.
