Cranbrook Opens State Of The Art Girls School
BLOOMFIELD HILLS (WWJ) - A new state-of-the art girls middle school is opening its doors in Oakland County. Cranbrook Schools in Bloomfield Hills is marking the opening of its new $16 million, 47,000 square-foot middle school for girls.
Cranbrook Director of Schools Arlyce Seibert says the new school has new science labs, one for each grade, along with special common areas.
There's a drama area for the sixth grade, a choral place for the seventh grade, and a dance studio for the 8th grade, and all were designed to meet the learning needs of middle school girls," said Seibert.
Seibert says research has shown that 6th, 7th, and 8th grade boys and girls gain confidence and succeed in separate educational environments.
Seibert says, "That self-confidence is a hallmark of Cranbrook grads. Famous Cranbrook alumni include actress Selma Blair, Mary Fisher, and Emily Senator Woods, the former head of J Crew."
The new girls school has room for 175 students. The boys middle school also holds 175 students. There are open spaces for the fall semester.
