Charlie Langton: Michigan Law Keeps A Biological Father From Seeing His Daughter
Daniel Quinn joined Charlie in studio. Due to a Michigan paternity law, Quinn hasn't been allowed to see his daughter since 2008. Why? Because if a woman is married to one man, but gives birth to another man's child, Michigan law recognizes her husband as the father, not the biological father. Dan Quinn raised his daughter for the first 2.5 years of her life but because of Michigan law, lost custody and all visitation rights.
A bill has been introduced to change this law and Dan Quinn travelled to Lansing to testify to a committee about it. However, while he sat for hours, other bills came up for debate and his was left untouched. He never got to say a word and the bill was never considered.
While Quinn hasn't been allowed to see his daughter, he could be on the hook for child support if the mother demands it. Listen to his story. You won't believe it.
