The MI Earth Day Fest is one of the largest Earth Day celebrations in the area, and is put together by the MI Green Team. Admission and all programs at the festival are free. There will be shopping - Food & Farm areas, plus green/wellness products, opportunities for learning - Connect Cafe, plus free yoga, massages, and health screenings, and other entertainment, such as dancing and music. It also has a Whole Kids Korner which features activities for kids, and special events like a kickoff ceremony, giveaways, and other contests. Parking is available downtown, as well as in parking lots.

The Greening of Detroit frequently helps to plants trees, and this would be a great way to celebrate Earth Day. There's a few dates in May you can choose, but the closest to Earth Day would be Friday, May 8th or Saturday, May 9th; 130 volunteers are needed. The Greening of Detroit's mission is to "help Detroit grow and flourish for a greener tomorrow, by revitalizing urban gardens, restoring and beautifying local neighborhoods and providing Detroiters with job skills through training programs."

The Ford Rouge Factory Tour would be a good way to celebrate Earth Day, as you'll be able to see for yourself what a modern factory is doing to reduce, reuse, and recycle. The factory has a "green roof," as well as solar panels and filtered rain water for plumbing. It also recycles every day. The tour is self-guided and has five parts: Legacy Theater, Manufacturing Innovation Theater, Observation Deck, Dearborn Truck Plant, and the Legacy Gallery. Tickets range from $10.25 (Youth Member) to $16 (Adult Non-member), and children 2 and under are able to go for free.

The Royal Oak Nature Society will host a Mushroom Walk on April 25th, 10 a.m. at Cummingston Park. You can park your car at Leafdale & Torquay St. The walk is hosted by Mary Fredricks, a botanist from the Nature Society. The walk is free and open to anyone who wants to learn more about mushrooms and other fungi that can be found in the woods.
