NEW YORK (AP) — Comments on the Detroit Lions by the AP Pro32 panel (ranking in parentheses):
___
DETROIT LIONS (22)
Chris Berman (ESPN, 20) — Mastering art of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
Clifton Brown (Sporting News, 22) — Close defeats have ruined their year. They have soul searching to do.
Cris Collinsworth (NBC Sports, 22)
Rich Gannon (CBS Sports/SiriusXM NFL Radio, 20) — Fading fast ... what more can I say?
Bob Glauber (Newsday, 21) — A lot of soul-searching for this team, especially after back-to-back meltdowns at home.
Rick Gosselin (Dallas Morning News, 25) — Calvin Johnson has caught 45 passes for 790 yards in his last five games. He has at least 129 yards receiving in all five of the games.
Clark Judge (CBSSports.com, 21) — It's beginning to look like another bailout for Detroit is necessary.
Ira Kaufman (Tampa Tribune, 21) — It's time to shop around for a new defense in Motown.
Pat Kirwan (SiriusXM NFL Radio/CBSSports.com, 23) — The frustration level in Detroit is as hard to watch as the San Diego Chargers. There are plenty of pieces in place, but the end result is eight loses. They can't let a rookie QB go 75 yards in 1:07 and beat you on a fourth down pass.
John Lynch (Fox Sports, 22) — Underachieving in Detroit! This team is very talented. Talent alone doesn't win you games.
Alex Marvez (Foxsports.com, 22) — The Lions were one of the NFL's best fourth-quarter teams at the midway point of the season. Following last Sunday's 38-33 home defeat against Indianapolis, Detroit (4-8) has now become the first NFL team in at least 30 seasons to lose three straight games after taking a lead into the final two minutes.
Dan Pompei (Chicago Tribune, 23) — With Titus Young, Ryan Broyles and Nate Burleson out of action, any guesses on who Matt Stafford will throw to at Lambeau Field Sunday?
