7,700 EMU Students Get Bad Grade Emails In Error

YPSILANTI (AP) - A Michigan university has determined that about 7,700 students got emails notices kicking them out of school for bad grades - a message intended for only 100 students.

Eastern Michigan said Tuesday that the incorrect emails were sent last week by a third-party provider.

School president Susan Martin is apologizing for the email, calling it an "inexcusable mistake."

The email starts by telling the students that as a result of their "winter 2012 academic performance," they've been "dismissed from Eastern Michigan University."

It also mentions a way for students to appeal.

Eastern Michigan is west of Detroit in Ypsilanti and has about 23,500 graduate and undergraduate students.
