Woman Goes To Court Against 12-Year-Old Nephew & Hug That Resulted In Injury

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (CBS4) - A Manhattan woman sued her nephew for the injuries she sustained after the 8-year-old gave her a hug at his birthday party.

Jennifer Connell, 54, filed a $127,000 suit against Sean Tarala, now 12, reports CBSNewYork.com.

Connell said they both tumbled to the ground when Tarala jumped and she failed to catch him. She claims he caused her to fall to the ground and break her wrist, resulting in lasting physical impairment.

She admitted in court that she did not complain about the injury at the time, but testified that life in Manhattan has been very difficult since her injury, according to the Connecticut Post.

"I was at a party recently and it was difficult to hold my hors d'oeuvre plate," Connell said.

Connell testified that she loves her nephew but believes he should be held accountable.

The boy, whose mother died last year, was the only defendant named in the case.

Connell lost her case, and Tarala found not liable for her injuries.
