Woman Dead After Stabbing In Southwest Denver

DENVER (CBS4) - A woman in her 40s was stabbed and killed in Denver overnight.

The incident happened at about 2 a.m. in the 2,400 block of West Wesley at a group living facility called Our House.

A man who lives in the facility told CBS4 he found Laura Emory outside of her room. Police said she had stab wounds and was dead when they arrived.

"I see the blood and just covered and I go into a rage and a panic," said Emory's housemate Carlos Grider.

Anita Rich, a neighbor, told CBS4 she heard a commotion in the middle of the night and heard a man calling for help. She then ran over and saw Emory lying on the ground.

"She was just lying there with blood all over here," said Rich, who said she then tried to resuscitate her before paramedics got there. "I was trying to clean out her mouth and I turned her over to, you know, I was trying to save her, I was trying to save her."

Rich said the house is a facility for people who have AIDS. She said the victim has AIDS and had been there for about three years and was both an employee and a resident.

Rich said there have been several police calls at the residence over the years, but usually they have been due to arguments between residents and nothing that serious.

Rich said the man she heard calling for help was one of the other residents of the facility.

The victim and a boyfriend have had some violent run-ins in the past and he has spent time in jail, possibly on domestic violence charges, according to several sources.

"He's broken her hip before," said Rich.

"She had a knee replacement due to injuries she has had before... from him," said Grider.

Mary and David Luers are members of a church who help AIDS patients at the facility. They said they are familiar with Emory's boyfriend's behavior.

"I knew that he had hurt her before and he has spent time in jail or prison," said Mary Luers.

"We begged her, we begged her as friends to leave him alone," said Grider.
