About 30 Cars Involved In Crash On Peña Boulevard Approaching DIA

DENVER (CBS4) -- A crash involving about 30 vehicles shut down inbound Peña Boulevard just north of 56th Avenue Saturday afternoon. That's the direction headed to the Denver International Airport. DIA officials first tweeted about the crash at 4 p.m.

The Denver Police Department said 14 people were transported to the hospital. They are all expected to survive. Officers were still assessing situation at 5 p.m.

A picture tweeted by Dale Ratterree showed whiteout conditions near the airport at the time of the crash.

CBS4 Meteorologist Chris Spears said it was an "isolated but intense squall." By 5 p.m., the skies had cleared and the snow was already melting.

CDOT advised taking Green Valley Ranch Boulevard to Tower Road back to Peña.
