Taxi Driver Helped Police With Valet Hit And Run Case
DENVER (CBS4)- Denver Police Detectives got a jump on the hit and run valet death investigation thanks to a taxi driver.
The driver saw the hit and run happen and had just been trained in a new program called "Taxis On Patrol."
The program was just announced last week. It is a way to get cab drivers to not only be aware of crimes in the neighborhoods where they drive, but report them as well.
"First of all, he did exactly what his training said to do. He followed at a safe distance, he abided by all traffic laws, and was still able to follow this vehicle, get a perfect description, and more importantly, get the license plate number that has led, to what I'm hearing, an arrest of several people," said Larry Stevenson with Metro Taxi.
Metro Taxi hopes the arrests in the hit and run are just the first steps in helping bring closure to the victim, Jose Medina's, family.
