Suspect In High-Speed Chase 'Flipped The Officers Off' Following Crash

MORGAN COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - A man is in custody following a high-speed chase in Morgan and Weld counties Saturday afternoon.

The chase happened on Highway 34 after a Wiggins police officer received a complaint about a driver speeding and driving erratically. Investigators say the suspect reached speeds of up 100 miles per hour and crossed over into oncoming traffic multiple times.

"As the officer was taking this complaint the vehicle drove by and was traveling westbound on Central Ave. The officer began to follow the vehicle which started to drive in an erratic matter, swerving into the other lanes of traffic," police said in a statement.

State Patrol troopers deployed stop sticks which caused the suspect's vehicle to rollover. Police say the suspect got out and ran for about 100 yards before being apprehended.

"The vehicle rolled over in a dirt field. As the driver got out of his wrecked vehicle officers ordered him to get down on the ground. Instead he flipped the officers off and ran southbound into a field," police said.

The suspect has been identified as Michael Turner, 28, from Firestone. Police say he was driving on a revoked driver's license "for theft charges and criminal mischief from a 2007 criminal case." He also had two outstanding warrants from Weld County for domestic violence.

Turner remains in custody and is facing numerous charges.
