State Dems Propose More Money To Fund Startups

DENVER (AP) - Democrats in the Colorado House want the state to spend more money to support business startups.

Democrats say they'll propose three grant additions when the Legislature convenes for the year Wednesday. Democrats want to boost funding for the state's 14 Small Business Development Centers. They also want to add money for a tax credit to encourage investment in startups and to give research universities money for technology research.

House Democratic Leader Mark Ferrandino says the startup proposals would cost between $3 million and $5 million next year. He says the money could come from redirecting money currently spent on enterprise zone credits Democrats say could be outdated.

Republicans who control the House have said they're not ready to endorse revising enterprise zone credits.
