Some Charges Dropped In Aspen Carbon Monoxide Case

ASPEN, Colo. (AP) - Prosecutors have dropped some charges filed against three men in the carbon monoxide deaths of a family staying in a home near Aspen.

Lawyers for the two building inspectors and a contractor had asked for the misdemeanor charges to be dismissed because the statute of limitations had run out. The Aspen Daily News and Aspen Times report that chief deputy attorney Arnold Mordkin filed papers to do so on New Year's Day.

The decision means that Pitkin County building inspector Brian Pawl no longer faces any charges in the 2008 deaths of Parker and Caroline Lofgren and their two children. However, four felony charges are still pending against Aspen building inspector Erik Peltonen and plumbing and heating company owner contractor Marlin Brown.
