Skiers, Boarders Don Swimsuits At Arapahoe Basin
SUMMIT COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - Even though it's July 3rd, plenty of people spent the day hitting the slopes.
Arapahoe Basin is still open up in Summit County. It's the first time in 14 years that the ski area has managed to stay open until the Fourth of July. It will close on Monday.
Skiers and boarders were out in shorts even swimsuits as they got in their final runs of the season. Some said it was their first time ever hitting the slopes in the summer. Others remember summer skiing back in 1997, the last time A-Basin was open this late.
"It's better. In 1997 it was a little 'Miracle Mile' I called it. It was a strip that came down and then we had to download midway to come down the rest of the way," long-time skier Jim Heath said. "This year we're skiing to the bottom and loving it."
A-Basin ended up with 472 inches of snow this year -- the second highest total ever.
