New Video Shows Deputy's Confrontation With Inmate
FORT COLLINS, Colo. (CBS4) - CBS4 has obtained video of a confrontation between a deputy and an inmate in the Larimer County Jail that cost the deputy his job and resulted in a criminal charge.
The jail video obtained by CBS4 investigators shows what happened between Deputy Simon Suarez and jail inmate Dustin Sims in 2014. The deputy is seen escorting Sims down a hallway when Sims makes some derogatory remarks toward Suarez, which the deputy admitted got under his skin.
The deputy is then seen grabbing Sims around the neck and knocking him into a wall.
Sims suffered minor injuries.
Suarez resigned and pleaded guilty to official oppression.
Sims has now filed a federal lawsuit saying his rights were violated.
