Second Massive Pool Party Plans Thwarted In Fort Collins

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (CBS4) - An apartment manager in Fort Collins says there will not be a repeat of last weekend's mega pool party at another complex.

Ten people went to the hospital and four Colorado State University students were cited at a party that many people found out about on Facebook. Those hospitalized were either injured or were drinking too much alcohol.

The party was organized by the management at Campus Crossings - Rams Point apartments. Nearby at another complex called Rams Village, the manager says he was shocked to hear there were Facebook invitations boasting of an even bigger party there next weekend.

"We found out three of our residents kind of planned their own pool party and invited the world," Mark Watts with Rams Village Apartments said.

Watts says he told the three female residents who sent the invitation the party wasn't allowed and they took it off of Facebook immediately. He said his staff will be patrolling the complex to make sure people don't show up anyway.

"We have a pretty good staff here, so we're going to monitor the pool here and make sure it's only our residents. They can have two guests with them," Watts said. "We'll have security here, which we normally do, and Fort Collins police have said they'll help us any way they can. And trespassing we take pretty serious here, so we'll be charging them with trespassing."

Police are still investigating last week's party and whether to cite the apartment managers or owners for violating the city's nuisance law and possibly make the apartment company pay back for police overtime and other costs. Watts says they don't want anything to do with that kind of trouble.

"There's no giant pool party. There was never a pool party planned here except by our residents and they now understand they can't do that," Watt said..

Colorado State University is considering whether to further punish the students cited at last weekend's party.
