Rumor: Denver's First Snow Could Be Less Than 48 Hours Away

DENVER (CBS4) - You've likely heard the rumor that snow could be on the way to Denver, but is there any truth to it?

The answer is while snow is in the realm of possibility it isn't exactly a slam dunk forecast.

It's all part of a Pacific storm system that will move into Colorado late Tuesday night, bringing valley rain to the western slope and a good dose of snow for the mountains west of the Continental Divide.

Denver will initially just see some windy weather and increasing clouds during the day on Wednesday along with cooler temperatures. A few rain showers are possible by late tomorrow night.

Then by the early morning hours on Thursday it does look like it will be cold enough in the Denver area that we could see a variety of conditions by the morning commute, including a mix of rain and snow.

There are still a few details that need to be ironed out as far as the exact track of this weather system, but if all works out, some of the Denver suburbs could briefly change over to all snow before the storm moves out Thursday night.

For Denver to record the "first official" snowfall of the season there must be an accumulation of at least 0.1 inches at Denver International Airport.
