Early Morning Rock Slide Closes I-70 For Short Time

PALISADE, Colo. (CBS4) - A rock slide next to Interstate 70 on the Western Slope forced emergency crews to shut down part of the highway for a short time Wednesday morning.

The eastbound lanes of the highway were closed for nearly 2 hours.

No one was hurt when the rocks fell.

Officials with the Colorado Department of Transportation said there is a chance for more slides with the winter storm bearing down on Colorado.

"There will be an increased potential for loose rocks and rockslides in canyons and areas with steep rocky slopes due to the cold temps and moisture," CDOT spokeswoman Stacey Stegman said in a prepared statement.
