Ranchers, Meat Packers Give Food Bank Large Donation
DENVER (AP/CBS4) - Farmers and ranchers from across the country are joining Greeley-based meatpacker JBS USA to donate 16,000 pounds of beef to the Feeding Colorado organization.
That group works with five food banks to serve all 64 counties in Colorado.
The beef was delivered at 10 a.m. Wednesday. It's believed to be the largest ever donation of beef to the food bank.
"In Colorado and food banks across the country we do not get a consistent donation supply of beef products, and so this beef donation is absolutely huge and vital to our ability to provide good nutrition," Jim Baldwin with Feeding Colorado said.
Food Bank of the Rockies provided 76,000 meals a day last year. It will divide the donated beef among five food banks in Colorado.
