Missing Missouri juvenile found in home of registered sex offender in Northern Colorado
A Missouri girl missing since December was recently found in the home of a registered sex offender in Northern Colorado.
On April 18, the Fort Collins Police Cyber Crimes Unit received a tip from a Missouri Cyber Crimes Task Force, stating that a missing juvenile girl in a possible kidnapping may be in the area. Fort Collins detectives determined that she may be at a residence in the 800 block of Warren Landing and served a search warrant at the property.
Officials said that Maximilian Bondrescu was inside the home and told authorities there were no juvenile girls inside. However, when officers searched the home, they located the missing girl.
Authorities said Bondrescu is a registered sex offender.
Officers booked Bondrescu into the Larimer County Jail. He is facing charges of:
- Second-degree kidnapping of a child
- Sexual assault on a child - pattern of abuse
- Second-degree assault
- False imprisonment - minor locked in a room
- Failure to register as a sex offender - incomplete registration
- Child abuse
- Harboring a minor
- Obstructing a peace officer.
Bondrescu reportedly rented a vehicle and drove to Missouri, met the girl and then returned with her to Colorado. She told investigators that she was held against her will, but sometimes Bondrescu made her work for his snow removal company, FoCo Sno GO. The girl said she was required to wear a mask to conceal her identity.
Authorities asked that anyone who has used this company contact Detective David Guy at (970) 416 2026.
"The importance of the work done by the Fort Collins Police Cyber Crime Unit, and similar units across the nation, play a vital role in helping to keep our children safe. Had it not been for the diligent work of these detectives, the juvenile could have continued to be victimized. Our investigators will now work closely with the District Attorney's Office to ensure justice for this child," said Fort Collins Police Assistant Chief Kristy Volesky.
