May Rainfall Puts Denver-Area Rain Over The Top

DENVER (AP) -- Rainfall this month has lifted the Denver-area to above-average levels for the first time this year.

National Weather Service meteorologist Dave Barjenbruch said Thursday that Denver International Airport has gotten 3.66 inches of rain in May. That's more than double the amount of precipitation that fell in the first four months of the year.

Rain from this week's spring storm brought minor flooding and hail to the metro area. Rain also fell over the area burned by wildfire in Boulder County but not enough to trigger any flooding or mudslides.

The situation is much different in southeastern Colorado, which remains dangerously dry.

Humidity remains low and winds gusting up to 40 mph were forecast Thursday. A red flag warning is in effect through the evening.
