Local Fashionistas Stay Trendy And On Budget

Written by Suzanne McCarroll
DENVER (CBS4)- Some local hip, young fashionistas swear by their ability to look trendy and stay on budget thanks to some insider tips.

Whitney DeVoogd always looks as if she just stepped off a New York fashion runway.

"I feel like I need to look my best all the time and I love designer clothing," said DeVoogd.

She recently opened her own hair salon, which means she has a reduced budget for clothing. Yet she still buys designer clothing.

"Most of us don't have thousands to spend on our clothing," said DeVoogd. "They were $225 and I paid $60 for them.

Abbe Katz also has a small clothing budget, but a huge collection of designer shoes and boots.

"I do consider myself a fashionista," said Katz.

So what is their secret?

"Rue La La, Beyond the Rack, HotLook, Gilt Groupe," said Katz. "They're basically designer sale websites similar to sample sales they'd have in New York City."

Rue La La has quick sales, which means you need to make decisions quickly.

"It can get ridiculous how much you save on these websites," said Katz.

DeVoogd bought a designer shirt online for $10 and a $225 designer leather jacket cost her $35.

Shoppers said the sites are good about returns, but more frequently they sell their purchases if an item doesn't work out.
