Investigation Into Discovery Of 2 Bodies In Jamestown Continues
JAMESTOWN, Colo. (CBS4) - Residents in Jamestown are on edge following the deaths of two different people in the mountain town.
Investigators are still waiting for the autopsies to be released in the deaths of Solange Haikkala, a 30-year-old single mom, and Thomas Altimus, 35. So far police have not linked the two deaths to one another.
Haikkala was found dead on Sept. 13. Altimus was found dead in the woods with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound three days later.
Residents in Jamestown are now trying to fill in the blanks with all the questions that surround the cases.
"It's hard to say what the relationship was, we're still looking at it," sheriff's spokewoman Heidi Prentup said.
On Tuesday the Boulder County Sheriff's Department held a town meeting to discuss the deaths.
"We were all looking for immediate closure and can't get it," Jamestown resident James Carlson said.
Haikkala was an assistant teacher in the Boulder Valley School District.
Altimus was a registered sex offender. He apparently had a long criminal history that included an arrest for felony theft. He was also arrested last year for failure to register as a sex offender.
"People are very much quieter and more introspected in the past couple of weeks than I'm used to them being there," Carlson said.
Jamestown is a tight-knit community where everybody knows each other. The situation has affected basically the whole town.
The autopsy results may not be released for a few weeks.
Haikkala's child is now staying with relatives in California.
