Hurt Climber Rescued After Fall In Poudre Canyon
FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) -- Authorities say a climber was injured when she was struck by a rock and fell about 20 feet in Poudre Canyon northwest of Fort Collins.
The Larimer County Sheriff's Department says the climber was taken to Poudre Valley Hospital early Monday after an hours-long rescue hampered by rugged terrain and darkness.
The sheriff's department says the climber is a 31-year-old woman from Fort Collins. Her name hasn't been released.
Authorities say she suffered a broken ankle, a crush injury to her hand and head lacerations. She was wearing a helmet.
The sheriff's department says the woman's climbing companion alerted deputies about the accident at about 6 p.m. Sunday.
Larimer County Emergency Services, Larimer County Search and Rescue, Poudre Canyon Fire Protection District and Poudre Valley Ambulance participated in the rescue.
