Grandmother Arrested In Connection With Death Of Her Granddaughter
DENVER (CBS4) - Denver police have arrested a grandmother in connection with the death of her granddaughter.
Kimberly Powell, 48, was taken into custody Thursday. She's facing charges of child abuse resulting in death.
Police were called to the Oak Park condos off Virginia Street Wednesday morning after receiving a 911 call. When they arrived 15-month-old Amber Enard was not breathing and officers saw bruises on her.
Neighbors said the grandmother was living at the apartment with her granddaughter and her parents. Neighbors also said the parents had only lived at the apartment for a few months but frequently they heard loud noises coming from the apartment.
"We launched the investigation, this is the direction it led us in, ultimately resulting with the grandmother being arrested," Det. John White said. "We'll have to present our information to district attorney's office. They will make a determination what charges are appropriate, if any."
Powell's criminal history includes an arrest for car theft, shoplifting, disturbing the peace and also parole violations.
Police are waiting on the results of the autopsy. The coroner's office said they were performing the autopsy Thursday.
