Giant Sculpture Inside Denver Art Museum Nearly Complete

DENVER (CBS4) – Work is nearly complete on an unusual 10-foot sculpture that's being built inside the Denver Art Museum.

Artist Roxanne Swentzell has spent much of her summer on the third floor of the museum's North Building constructing "Mud Woman Rolls On" using the same technique as building an adobe house.

The "Mud Woman" in the sculpture is made out of mud and straw to represent Mother Earth. In front of Mud Woman are children who represent all the people of the world.

On Friday Swentzell was hard at work at the museum doing some of the finishing touches, including perfecting the look of the toes.

Swentzell is from Santa Clara, N.M. She will be on hand when the celebration of the completion of the sculpture takes place on Sept. 10 at 10 a.m.

It will have a permanent home at the museum.
