Crews Contain Grass Fire East Of Colorado Springs
ELLICOTT, Colo. (AP) -- Crews have contained a grass fire that was threatening buildings near Ellicott in El Paso County.
The sheriff's office said the fire is about a mile north of the intersection of Colorado 94 and North Curtis Road, roughly 20 miles east of Colorado Springs. Sheriff's Lt. Lari Sevene says at least four structures were threatened by the 147-acre blaze but none burned.
Sevene says the fire was started by sparks from a saw that county workers were using to fix a guardrail and high winds quickly spread the flames. Firefighters from 13 agencies responded to the fire and crews will remain to monitor it and mop up.
