City Councilman Files Lawsuit With City-Issued Credit Card
FEDERAL HEIGHTS, Colo. (CBS4)- Federal Heights City Councilman Ted May is suing his own council over their code of ethics, and used a city-issued credit card to file the complaint.
May named Federal Heights Mayor Daniel Dick, Mayor Pro-Tem John Hamlin, and four other council members in the Nov. 14 lawsuit.
He says the council rushed to eliminate a code of ethics against the best interest of Federal Heights citizens.
The City of Federal Heights has since filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit. They say May is "disgruntled" over a decision to overhaul the code of ethics despite his vote against it.
Wednesday, May's privileges to a city-issued credit card were revoked by the city manager.
Records show May made $327.60 in charges to file the lawsuit against the city.
May says he's not seeking any monetary compensation, but instead he wants the court to take a look at possible constitutional violations.
The city is asking for attorney fees and credit card charges in return.
