Children Home Alone When Fire Breaks Out In Denver

DENVER (CBS4) - Two children are recovering from smoke inhalation after a fire in their Denver apartment while they were home alone Friday afternoon.

The district attorney will decide if the mother of the children will face child neglect charges.

The fire damaged one unit of the Amparo Apartments on Bruce Randolph Avenue between Franklin and Gilpin streets.

Firefighters say smoke filled the entire building. Crews broke through windows to put out the fire.

The two children, a boy and a girl, are both under the age of 10.

"We heard, 'Fire, fire!' And we went outside and we saw smoke and the windows started sizzling and popping and people started panicking. It was crazy," a witness said.

Firefighters are looking into the possibility the children accidentally set the fire.
